2017 International Brittany ClassicsThe
2017 running of the American Brittany Club International Brittany
Classics began on Monday March 20th at the beautiful grounds of the
Mingo Sportsman Club in Bloomingdale, OH. We’d like to thank
Purina for their continued generous support of this event. The
Tri State Brittany Championship Association, which hosts the event, is
a small group of volunteers who work hard to keep the event
going. While spring officially arrived during this trial, Mother
Nature reminded us that winter wasn’t quite over yet. We suffered
through a few frigid mornings, but man and beast all managed to survive.
Our
judges for this year’s running were Bill Monk and Cliff Mesnard for the
Grand Amateur Limited All Age; Chris Catanzarite and Mark Calder for
the Grand Open Limited Gun Dog; and Jim House and Leslie Like for the
Grand Open Limited All Age. We thank them for their time in the
saddle!
The
Grand Amateur Limited All Age Champion was JJ’s Levi The Lionheart,
owned and handled by Joe Williams. The young male is having a
great season, coming off a win in the Region 4 Amateur All Age
Championship the week before. Levi ran a very strong forward race
with 2 crisp finds. Runner-up was awarded to Black Creek Deacon,
handled by Ron Harling Jr. Deacon is a seasoned veteran who wowed
the judges with some great moves. He is co-owned by Ron Jr. and
Ron Harling Sr. Pressing the winners were ANJ’s Ohio Hellion, owned and
handled by Mike Poehler and Georgia’s Texas Two Step, owned by Travis
Tangen.
The
Grand Open Limited Gun Dog Stake began on Wednesday morning and
concluded on Thursday morning. This year’s Champion was Magnum
High Velocity, owned and handled by Vince Anderson. Gage laid
down a nice forward race with 2 stylish finds. Augustus of Tiger,
owned by Bo Ackerman and handled by Tom Tracy was awarded the runner up
spot. Izzy Does It, owned and handled by Jim Winnen and Ricochet
Gunsmoke’s Mr. Dillon owned by Mickey Condron and handled by Tommy
Thomas rounded out the field.
The
Grand Open Limited All Age Championship began immediately following the
last brace of the gun dog stake. This year’s Champion was
Georgia’s Texas Two Step, owned by Travis Tangen and handled by Tom
Tracy. Georgia showed well on the wide open grounds of the Mingo
Sportsman club. Runner up honors were awarded to Glad Run Irish,
owned by David Webb and handled by Tracy. JJ’s Levi The Lionheart
and JJ’s Alabaster Angel, both owned and handled by Joe Williams were
awarded 3rd and 4th.
